The main difference between medical
protective clothing and medical isolation gowns lies in that medical protective
clothing is more durable, has a higher protection level, and offers better
protective performance than isolation gowns.
In addition to meeting the requirements of
high strength and high wear resistance for material protection levels, their
application scenarios also differ due to distinct protective purposes and
principles. Although medical protective clothing is superior to isolation
gowns, its usage cost is relatively higher. Therefore, the selection should be
based on actual needs.
1. Different Protective Functions
- Medical protective clothing: It is
a type of medical protective equipment worn by clinical medical staff when
contacting Class A infectious diseases or infectious diseases managed as
Class A.
- Medical isolation gowns: They are
used by medical staff to prevent contamination by blood, body fluids, and
other infectious substances, or to protect patients from infection.
2. Different Usage Requirements
Requirements for Wearing Isolation Gowns
- When contacting patients with infectious diseases transmitted
via contact, such as patients with infectious diseases or
multidrug-resistant bacteria.
- When conducting diagnosis, treatment, and care for patients
with extensive burns or bone marrow transplant patients.
- When there is a risk of splashes from patients' body fluids and
secretions.
- Whether isolation gowns are required when entering key departments
such as ICUs and protective wards shall be determined by the purpose of
medical staff's entry and their contact with patients.
Requirements for Wearing Medical
Protective Clothing
It is required when contacting patients
with infectious diseases transmitted via airborne or droplet routes, and when
there is a risk of exposure to splashes of patients' blood, body fluids,
secretions, and excreta.
3. Different Target Users
- Medical protective clothing: It is
designed to prevent medical staff from being infected, belonging to
one-way isolation, and mainly targets medical staff. It is suitable for
providing a barrier and protective effect for medical staff against
potential exposure to blood, body fluids, secretions, and airborne
particles from potentially infectious patients during work.
- Medical isolation gowns: They are
intended to prevent both medical staff from being infected or contaminated
and patients from being infected, belonging to two-way isolation. They are
used for general isolation in scenarios such as outpatient clinics, wards,
and laboratories of medical institutions, entry/exit inspections at
stations and campuses, and factory resumption of work.
