Procedure for Donning a Surgical Gown and Sterile Gloves

Disposable surgical gowns are made of non-woven fabric or composite material of coated non-woven fabric with certain protective properties. They are used to prevent the transmission of infectious agents between patients and medical staff during surgical procedures and other invasive examinations.

Procedure for Donning a Surgical Gown4

  1. Use both hands to lift the two ends of the gown's neckline respectively, gently shake out the gown, and position the side with waistbands facing outward (so the inner side of the gown faces you).
  2. Toss the gown slightly upward, and slide your hands into the sleeves smoothly. Extend your arms forward, and the circulating nurse will assist you in putting on the gown from behind to help your hands come out of the cuffs.
  3. Lean your body slightly forward to let the waistbands hang down away from the gown. Cross your hands to lift the waistbands on both the left and right sides, pass them slightly backward, and the nurse will catch and fasten them tightly behind you.

Procedure for Donning Sterile Gloves20

  1. Open the glove package, take out the gloves. Pinch the folded edge of one glove with your left hand, and insert your right hand into the glove, aligning your fingers with the glove’s fingers.
  2. With your gloved right hand, insert four fingers (excluding the thumb) into the folded edge of the other glove. Slide your left hand into the glove smoothly.
  3. Fold the folded edges of both gloves over the cuffs of the surgical gown respectively.

After donning the gloves, maintain the correct position and posture of your hands. Keep your hands and forearms in front of your chest, and do not touch your chest or abdomen to prevent contamination.

Precautions for Donning a Surgical Gown

  1. Wash and disinfect your hands before putting on the surgical gown.
  2. Open the gown in an open area. Do not let the gown touch other objects or the floor, as contact with the edges of tables or chairs may cause contamination.
  3. When holding the waistbands with your hands, do not touch the gown itself. Do not reach out to grab the waistbands directly, as this may lead to contamination.
  4. After putting on the gloves, keep your hands in front of your chest. Ensure your hands do not go above the shoulders or below the waist.
